Because of the nature of Ahadi: East Africa, it has been discussed that in most online games characters advance rapidly and without justification. It's because of this that we have developed a sliding scale for purposes of fleshing out the character, not the character sheet. Additional traits may be added to your character sheet, per the storyteller's discretion, or for purposes of developing a character within reason, but this system will be our core method for awards.
The sliding scale is broken down into three separate categories, with three levels per category. For each level, you are eligible for one experience point. However, to reach the second experience point for that category, you must have been awarded the first, and to be given the third XP, you must reach the second. For example, you can not get awarded for the first and the third point in each category.
Online play will be awarded monthly
Online Submission
We will be developing a player tool for submission of XP, in the mean time, we will likely handle them through the forums or email.
Expectations and Reasoning
We developed this system after considering a combination of factors including relative amount of storyline vs played down-time on an online venue, relative speed of growth, and average amounts of awards. We did not believe in awarding players for simply logging in because most online time logged would be the table-top equivalent of down-time. On the other hand, we did not feel that the Per Session Awards in the books were enough for a full month of play and we wanted each month of game time to be the equivalent of a strong, bi-weekly table top game. With a system of roughly 3-9 XP per month, plus extra credit from storyline participation, we felt this system was fair and balanced. In play-testing, we awarded scores of 7-9, so, if you are a strong participant, you will be rewarded.
Category 1: Roleplaying
- Character Development:
Do you feel that your character in some way accomplished something, learned something new and if so, how have you been facilitating this through your characters actions over the session? Explain. - Character Concept:
It has been established that your character is developing, but it is important to be true to the concept. Are you properly playing your character based on his skills, knowledges, history, and traits? Please explain how the personality and potential of your character is limited by their experiences and not your own. - Character Concept played in the face of extreme adversity:
It has been established that you have played your character concept over the your personality. However, sometimes, it is easy to play your character slightly different (or use metagame knowledge) to succeed when the chips are down. The pinnacle of roleplaying your concept is when you play the character 'correctly' even if you, the player, know better, especially if a character's life or the story is in peril. Where have you, the player, been challenged in this capacity? Are you a genius, but playing an Intelligence 1 PC? Did you ever say to yourself, "I know this is a _____ and can beat it with a _____, but my PC doesn't know that." Have you encountered certain places, peoples, or things that could guide your character off of their true path even if you know how to overcome them? Have you stuck to your concept despite these actions? Explain.
Category 2: Cooperation
- Cooperation within your group and with the Ahadi:
Has your character cooperated with the group? Have you worked together with the members of your team for the greater good of the Ahadi? Have you acted in accordance with The Ahadi Code both in your actions and your deeds, and encouraged others within your team to do so? Explain. - Cooperation within the best of your breed ability:
It has been established that you are actively promoting the spirit of cooperation from the previous level. All characters will be diverse in a number of areas, not to mention the fact that you are now interacting with several different breeds. Have you cooperated in accordance with the Ahadi, while still completing your tasks for Gaia? Have you adhered to the archetype of your breed while still maintaining good relations within the Ahadi? Explain. [Note: This is representative of the second and third laws of The Ahadi Code] - Sacrificial Cooperation:
It has been established that you are already a paragon of cooperation in the Ahadi, adhering to the tenets of the code. But sometimes, exceptional circumstances permit a member to truly embody the spirit of cooperation, even though The Ahadi Code also protects them from unrealistic expectations. When the character sacrifices a part of themselves, their birthright, or their archetypal Gaian Role to promote the spirit of cooperation, they may be eligible for this experience. Explain.
Category 3: Story Involvement
- Participation:
For table top play, this level represents punctuality and presence at the games. For online play, this represents presence in storylines, not just a logged in to the chat.
- Progressing the Storyline:
It has been established that you have been involved in play, but has your character actively contributed to the storyline (through resources, research, interaction with NPCs or other activities)? Has you character, at one point or another, kept the story moving and interesting for the other players? Explain.
- Mission Critical Contribution:
It has been established that you have assisted in the progression of the storyline. To be eligible for the mission critical contribution point, your character must have done something that was absolutely critical to the storyline and not something that the other characters may have been able to figure out or accomplish. This point is for those that, for the story, had their chance to shine.
